Introduction to Sanskrit for Yogis

A Three Part Series: February 17th, March 17th, April 21st, 1-3:30PM, at Mysore Philadelphia

Mysore Philadelphia

An understanding of Sanskrit can help to connect us to the rich fabric of philosophy from which the yoga tradition emerged and thus deepen our practice. Sanskrit study can be a meditation in itself and helps to cultivate concentration. It is also fun!

In this three part series, we will learn to read and write the Sanskrit alphabet, emphasizing proper pronunciation through chanting. Each class will build upon the previous one, as we begin to read and write familiar words, chants and yoga-related verses. Homework will be given, to be done during the month between sessions, which you can send to Zoë for review.

This course is ideal for both beginners and those with some experience who would like to reinvigorate their studies. It will lay the foundation for further series of studies, in which we will continue to explore Sanskrit, yoga philosophy and chanting.

*For those students who have completed the Intro Series with Zoë, a Level 2 and 3 course will be offered simultaneously. The work done in these courses will build upon the foundations acquired in the first series. We will learn some simple verbs and nouns which will allow us to begin to read and understand verses from texts such as the Bhagavad Gītā.
